Income Protection for Rugby Players

Playing rugby increases the risk of injury and hence the risk of you not being able to carry out your job and get paid.

Wiltshire Friendly has been working with professional rugby since 2011. We have built an understanding of the sport that enables us to insure players at professional, semi-professional and amateur levels, so whatever level you play at, we have a plan to suit your requirements.

The plans are insurance policies designed to replace a proportion of income lost when a player is unable to follow their occupation(s) due to illness or injury.

Whether you’re playing for the love of the game at amateur level, playing semi-professionally and earning income from a ‘day job’ and from your club, or whether you are a full time professional rugby player Wiltshire Friendly can help you protect against potential financial hardship caused through not being able to work.

What type of player are you? Please click on the relevant button below to find out more details of our rugby plans. Alternatively, if you would like to know more, please click the link at the bottom of this page and we will be in touch with you as soon as we can.

Our Professional plans are created specifically for the professional player, designed to fit with the income protection benefits a player gets included within their contract.

We also tie the duration of the plan into the rugby retirement age, which we set to 35.

You have options – there is the Lite plan and the Standard plan. This gives you the choice as to whether you want a shorter benefit term and a cheaper premium, or a longer benefit term which you are happy to pay for.

As we have been insuring professional players since 2011, we have built a real understanding of the rugby world and related injuries, which assists us in assessing existing medical conditions when you apply.

Where players have had career ending injuries we have worked with them to manage their claim and help them move towards a non-rugby playing occupation.

We believe that you should have all the facts available when making your decision as to the suitability of the plan. That's why we have only one Policy Summary for each product, with all the information clearly explained.

For a semi-professional rugby player, we offer our standard individual plan designed to insure the ‘day job’, whether employed or self-employed. You choose the amount of cover and benefit payment terms, within defined limits, to suit your requirements.

It is also possible to insure against the loss of income from the rugby club.

To acknowledge the extra risk that comes with playing rugby semi-professionally, we add specific terms applying to any rugby related injury. It is important to point out that any illness or injury which is non-rugby related does not have the rugby terms applied.
