Individual Income Protection

It is possible for people to overestimate the amount of State help they will receive if they are taken ill.

According to, if you are employed the weekly rate for Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) is £94.25 for up to 28 weeks (April 2019).

If you are self-employed you may be entitled to Employment Support Allowance (ESA). The assessment phase rate, which is paid for the first 13 weeks of a claim while a decision is made on candidate’s capability for work through the Work Capability Assessment is as follows (as at April 2019):

  • A single person aged under 25 can receive up to £57.90 a week.
  •  A single person aged 25 and over can receive up to £73.10 a week.

So in short, there is some provision from the State but it is limited. However, with an Individual Income Replacement Plan from Wiltshire Friendly you can make sure that you are personally protected to a level that suits you.

Sickness Income Plus

This is our current Individual Income Replacement Plan (sometimes referred to as Income Protection Insurance). It is designed to pay you regular benefit to replace part of your regular income that is lost when you are unable to work because of illness or injury. The plan also aims to pay you a cash sum when you reach the plan retirement age.

We understand that choosing an Income Replacement Plan for you and your family can be confusing. That is why we aim to make that process easier through a straightforward approach, supported by our own advisers.

Whether you’re interested in reviewing the cover you currently have or want advice about how best to meet your requirements the Society's advisers are on hand to help you. This can be on the phone or face to face in a location that suits you. If you’d like to talk to one of our advisers please click on their details at the bottom of the page.

Wiltshire Friendly Society is a mutual* which means we only work for you. Being a mutual means that we are owned by our members and have no shareholders to consider.

We don’t look for excuses to refuse genuine claims – we know that’s when you need us most. Instead we aim to make sure claims are assessed and benefit is paid as efficiently as possible.

*Association of Financial Mutuals - UK insurance companies are all authorised and regulated by the Prudential Regulation Authority and/or the Financial Conduct Authority.
